Her aged face
her wrinkled skin
Veins in her weak hands
Proof of a hard labored life..
She smiled at me
Shy and kind
Her eyes spoke of sadness
Fearful inside her heart
She sighed
Tired and weary,
Her plight
Showed in her words..
She's lost
She's broken..
Why, oh why
My questions poured..
Why is she alone?
unloved, unprotected?
Where are her children?
Or is she forlorn?
I walked towards her
Gave her a bottle of water
To show I care
She needed a friend
Let that friend be me..
She gladly thanked me
I said, "welcome"
I opened her palm
Put money in it..
Her teardrops fell
She told me this:
"I was abandoned
By my kids"
I held her hand
Told her to hope
Life is worth living
She must have faith..
I sat with her
All throughout the trip
Her energy drips
Her heart broken
By uncaring kids
I asked , where will she go
"To my friends", she said
Where is that? I asked
In the home of the aged
But why? I inquired
My kids pushed me away
I have no place to stay
I will travel with you
My dear old woman
To make sure of your safety
She responded with glee
She smiled and nodded
Then asked me why
Why I want to help her
Smiled, I whispered....
Because, grandma, you are lost
I want to see you found your place
Do not worry about me
I find the joy in me
when I know you will be home..
She hugged me tight
Told me to come
Surely I will visit
Just happy in thought
I was there for her
I knew she was feeling lost
She has found a home..
But is she really home?
My heart breaks
Thinking why must she suffer
She is an old woman without a home
Where are her children
Where is her home?
